Come and learn how to preserve rhubarb by making jam, syrups, conserves, and sauces. We’ll learn how to properly freeze and use your fruit in the depths of winter when you just want something summery to eat.

Students will make rhubarb jam, rhubarb syrup, and a rhubarb conserve in class and receive a recipe book to use at home during the rhubarb season.

Learn to capture summers bounty into a beautiful berry jam with preserving expert Heidi Skoog, owner of Minneapolis based company Serious Jams. Heidi will demonstrate the process for making a jam that is balanced in flavor and properly set with whatever berries are fresh from the market at the time of class. Tips for specific berries, sourcing, and storage options (whether canning or keeping in the fridge) will also be discussed. Students will head home with a sample of the evening’s jam and a good basic recipe for making jam at home to preserve summer flavors well into the winter.

Get ready to get canning with preserving expert Heidi Skoog, owner of Serious Jams! This afternoon class will focus on the essential tools and skills for preserving food using water bath canning. While the class will make and can a simple jam based on whatever fruit is good from the market, the same techniques can also be applied to jellies, sauces, salsas and pickles. Students will have the opportunity to join in and get hands on, leaving with recipes and understanding to tackle more canning at home and fill up their pantries with delicious homemade preserves year-round. Suitable for ages 18+.
