OUR MISSION

To source organic and local ingredients, to create preserves that keep your taste buds entertained, and to keep on making the jams, one batch at a time with love, right here in Scandia, Minnesota.

THE STORY

Serious Jam had it's first glimmer one lovely summer day when the strawberry picking was abundant and the competitive spirit was high between my husband, Kern, and I.

After picking far too many berries for two people to eat, I decided to make some jam and give it away to our friends and family. They loved it and requested 'more, please!' Fast forward 2 years later when I decided to start a business with this "jam thing" and was trying to come up with a name for my company. I wanted a name that was serious and not too adorable. I wanted to start a serious jam company that focused on supporting organic and local farmers, and that used old-school jam making methods.  A friend listened to all this and mentioned that, perhaps, I had already named it. OH!  And so, Serious Jam was born.

ABOUT

Heidi Skoog is the proprietress of Serious Jam.

After nearly two decades as an award-winning florist, she swapped blooms for an apron to pursue her passion for food. A self-taught jam-maker, Heidi combines traditional methods and a flair for experimenting with flavor combinations and unusual ingredients. The result is a well-balanced, vibrant preserve that has a lot of love and story in every jar. Unexpected flavor combinations, such as Salted Strawberry Jam, Chai Spiced Pear Butter, and Blood Orange Whiskey Marmalade have put Serious Jam on the culinary map.

In addition to being serious about jam, Heidi is equally committed to teaching others to preserve the harvest, using food and herbs to heal, and testing her theories of kitchen-witchery on her super swell husband Kern and their eager friends. Heidi and Kern can often be found slinging jam at farmer’s markets together. They live in Scandia, MN on a darling little hobby farm with 2 clever and funny cats, a Golden Retriever named Rhubarb, and 9 chickens with very, very distinct personalities, including a new rooster who was thought to be a girl, until he let out a squawky crow one morning. And so Olive, was renamed Oliver.

Serious Jam products are just that– accomplished, certainly, but also whimsical, and daring, and thoughtful, every jar brimming with rich colors and tastebud-grabbing flavors.
